Why blog about all of this boring training stuff with my dogs?

Good question. I could keep written notes or log this stuff on my pc in a word document. But I like the blog format and to me it seems like a cheap and easy way to track my progress as I train my dogs. It might even be useful to people who are training their own dogs or for a cheap laugh at my expense!

Since I started working with dogs back in the early 1990’s, I’ve learned something new in practically every training session I’ve ever worked with a dog. I learn about myself. I learn about my dogs. I gain insight into the training process and the learning process. I’m fascinated by the science behind behavioral conditioning.

I’ve also started teaching Dog Training 101 to other dog owners and it’s given me a whole new perspective on what I think I know about operant conditioning - and about how well I may or may not be able to present this information to “new” dog trainers.

There are many wonderful resources on the web and this site will help me collect that information for my own use and as a side benefit it will be available for the use of others.

Eventually, I’ll write up some information about my dogs, the training that they’ve had and what my goals are for each of them.
